Payment Cards in Germany Statistics 2008 – 2017
This study provides an annual analysis of the most important data on German card business. 10 years of data on the debit-, credit-, and private label card market (only plc cards with payment function) are displayed. Data on the German e-purse “GeldKarte” are available beginning 1996.
With respect to credit cards, there are data on the number of cards, transactions, acceptance points and the value of transactions. In addition, a number of coefficients are derived.
The chapter on debit cards provides an overview of the number of cards (girocard/maestro-cards and bank customer/ATM cards), the number and value of transactions (ec-cash, ELV), the number of terminals. Again, a number of coefficients is derived.
There is a separate chapter on ATMs: number of ATMs, number of withdrawals and the market shares of the different banking sectors. Yet another chapter takes a closer look at cross-border use of payment cards.
The chapter on private label cards provides an overview over the market for private label cards with payment function. It provides a breakdown over retail sectors and an overview of the most important issuers.
